Carmen Hust MScN, PhD, RN, CPMHN (c)

DIRECTOR - CHAIR

Carmen is retired from being a full-time nursing professor at Algonquin College. She obtained her BScN at Université de Montréal, her MScN at Villanova University in Pennsylvania and PhD from the University of Ottawa. Carmen teaches to her passion Mental Health and wellbeing and sits on the board of the Federation of Canadian Mental Health Nurses, Algonquin College Campus Ministry and Algonquin College’s Mental Health Steering committee. Her research focus has been the lived experience of post-secondary students with mental health concerns. She has learned much from students with mental health concerns about stigma, stresses and the socio, economic, political and spiritual realities that post -secondary students face. Through her research, she has also come to appreciate how students with mental health concerns understand recovery. Beyond the professional sphere, Carmen is an active member of the Anglican Parish of South Carleton and has an appreciation for nature and sustainable living. She has raised three daughters, lives on a small hobby farm and keeps bees.

Alexis Carty

DIRECTOR – SECRETARY

Alexis Carty has spent over 23 years providing policy guidance, and strategic and negotiating advice, as a Senior Policy Advisor with the Canadian Government. While at Justice Canada, Alexis was at the forefront of raising awareness, and identifying formal and informal methods to support Canadians that are struggling with mental health issues. These efforts have led to numerous pan-Canadian initiatives being created that have proven to be effective in working with those who have mental health issues as a cofactor to being in conflict with the law.  Alexis has served on advisory committees, and on various Boards, including Leadership Ottawa and the Canadian Centre on Minority Affairs. Along with being President of his neighbourhood's homeowners association, Alexis currently attends Cedarview Alliance where he has served on multiple committees, as well as volunteering with junior and senior high school aged youth.

Karen Fishwick

DIRECTOR - TREASURER

Karen currently works as the VP of Finance for the Evangelical Fellowship of Canada in their Ottawa office. Previously, she worked for IBM and filled multiple roles with the company over 10 Years. Prior to joining IBM, she did a variety of jobs with different companies in the Ottawa area. She spent the majority of her career as a software trainer and consultant and has always worked for technology companies. Outside of work she enjoys skiing, cycling, hiking, camping, travelling, gardening and volunteering with church and community organizations. Karen and her husband and children live in Osgoode and attend Trinity Bible Church of Ottawa (TBCO)

Alexander (Sandy) Davidson

BOARD ADVISOR

Sandy has served as a Board Advisor since 2004. As a veteran of the Board he is able to provide much needed continuity – the how we got here view. He has an excellent knowledge of not-for-profit/ charitable organizations and required financial processes and can be counted upon to provide research and analysis required to support the Board’s decision making process. Sandy has a B.A. and LL.B. and is retired from the Public Service after a long and successful career. His home church is the Metropolitan Bible Church.
